Welcome! We are excited about getting to know you and are thankful for the opportunity to make a positive contribution towards improving your health. In order to get the most from your time with Dr. Faust, Please review the following information before your initial appointment

*** A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT WEATHER ***

Dr. Faust is nearly always able to get to the office for his appointments. If for any reason we would need to close the office during our regular business hours – and you are scheduled for an appointment – we will always contact you as soon as possible. As a frame of reference, this has only happened once during 14 years of practicing in Baltimore. In that instance, we knew a large volume of snow was forecast for the next day. We made sure that we connected with all clients on the schedule for the anticipated snow day the day before so we could reschedule them. If you are scheduled to see Dr. Faust on a day that may be snowy or icy, you may decide you’d prefer to have your consult via phone or Skype. If so, just let us know at the front desk an hour or more beforehand. If you simply wish to reschedule your appointment, please call or email us as soon as possible. Given enough notice, we can often fill cancellations with clients who wish to have their consultation via Skype or telephone. As usual, any changes to our regular hours for any reason are posted on our website under the “Contact/Hours” section.

Your Initial Visit

Your first visit with Dr. Faust will last approximately 60- 90 minutes and will include a detailed interview and review of records resulting in a list of specific recommendations for you. Please be sure you have completed a health history form and returned it to us prior to your initial appointment. In addition, please make sure any relevant lab results have been forwarded to us, as they will be very important in formulating targeted recommendations for you. If it is not possible to get results to us before your appointment, you may bring copies with you and we can copy them when you arrive.  If you are not sending results yourself, but have asked your MD’s office to do so, please let us know so that we can be sure all expected results have been received and are in your chart for your appointment with Dr. Faust.  Completed health forms and lab results may be emailed, faxed or sent to us via USPS.

Please note that Dr. Faust respects your time and will make every effort to see you at your scheduled appointment time.  Please plan to arrive at our office a few minutes ahead of your appointment time to allow for any administrative issues to be addressed.  Unfortunately, if you are late to your appointment you may only be seen for the remainder of your scheduled time so as not to adversely impact others’ schedules.

What else to bring – If you are taking more than a few nutritional supplements, you may wish to bring the bottles with you for Dr. Faust to review.

Notes – Most clients find it helpful to take notes during their appointments.  We have clipboards in the office for this purpose.

Support person – If you have a serious illness you may wish to consider inviting a close friend or family member to your appointment.  This is by no means required.  We have found that there is often a lot of new information discussed during initial consultations and having a second person to listen in and take notes can be helpful.  At the same time, Dr. Faust will be discussing potentially emotional issues and there may be times when it is best if any friends and family are out of the room.

Children—We recommend that children not be brought to appointments for adults.  If the appointment is for the child, it is ideal if both parents can attend the consultation, particularly the first one.

Costs and Insurance

Costs for consultations generally range from $150 to $475 depending on the complexity of the visit.  Payment is due at time of service. Unfortunately, naturopathic medicine is not covered by insurance in Maryland.  Dr. Faust cannot provide insurance billing statements, diagnostic codes or letters of medical necessity.  We accept cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard.

Cancellation Policy

We understand if you need to reschedule your appointment. Please know that unlike most conventional doctor’s offices, the time reserved for you is for you alone.  We do keep a wait list and can usually fill appointment openings given advance notice.  We kindly ask for 2 business days’ notice.  Cancellations made within 2 business days are subject to a cancellation fee equal to the amount of the visit.

Follow up Visits

Follow up visits are generally 30 minutes long.  In very complex cases, or when the client’s last appointment was more than a year ago, 45 minutes may be needed.  Again, please be sure that results of any lab work done by your MDs between appointments with Dr. Faust are forwarded to us.

When do I need to follow up?

In most cases Dr. Faust will make a note at the bottom of your protocol with a recommended follow up interval. Because many of our clients do prebook we recommend that you schedule your return appointment at the end of each visit.  If a new issue arises prior to your recommended follow up or the current protocol is not bringing about the results you had expected, please call the office to move up your follow up appointment so that we can address your concerns as soon as possible.

Telephone and Skype Consultations

After an initial visit, telephone and Skype consultations are available with Dr. Faust.  We schedule these the same as we do other consultations, but ask that you call the office a minute or two before your scheduled consult time. Dr. Faust will call you back at the number you give us and we will email you your new protocol at the end of the consultation.  If you live outside of our time zone, please note that your appointment time will be in terms of Maryland time.  When you schedule your phone or Skype appointment we will ask for your credit card information.

Scheduling

We recommend that our clients pre-book routine visits at least a month in advance.

In-Between Routine Visit

Sometimes you may wish to schedule an appointment in between your regularly recommended follow up schedule.  For instance, if you have new lab results that you would like to review with Dr. Faust before your next follow up or if you have an acute illness arise such as a cold, flu, or rash.

I have a cold/flu/rash/injury. Can I schedule a same day appointment?

While the primary focus of Dr. Faust’s practice is preventive medicine and addressing chronic illnesses, we do try to keep a small amount of time available most days for urgent issues that arise for our existing clients in between their regular appointments. If you are struggling with an acute illness, please call our office before 9:30 (or leave a voicemail anytime before then) to see if scheduling a same day appointment with Dr. Faust is possible.

Products and Supplements

We strive to bring you the highest quality supplements available in the industry. All of our products are nutriceutical grade, and manufactured under the FDA’s standard for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). Because there is limited regulation in the natural products industry, there are lots of supplements in the marketplace that either don’t contain what they say they do, or are contaminated. Many products simply are made of the cheapest materials rather than those elements that can actually be absorbed and utilized by the body. The products we stock are the formulations Dr. Faust trusts to provide the potency necessary to achieve the desired therapeutic outcome.

Should I keep taking the supplements I was taking on my own?

Dr. Faust does review all supplements that you have listed on your health history form prior to the initial consultation. Each protocol is specifically targeted towards your personal health goals and concerns.  If he would like you to continue with a supplement he will indicate so on your protocol.

Office Closures

Office closures or changes in our hours are communicated via our website:  chesapeakenaturalhealth.com as well as our outgoing voicemail recording.  In the event of bad weather, we will contact you if we foresee having to close the office.

Can I send questions via email?

We reserve email for administrative purposes only, such as: receiving lab work, sending requested information, confirming appointments, clarification of instructions or plans, and ordering. Please note that medical questions or concerns can only be discussed during appointments. Since naturopathic medicine seeks to address the root cause of illness versus just treating symptoms, interactive consultations are required for Dr. Faust to develop informed and targeted recommendations for each case. You are welcome to send personal notes and observations or conversation topics prior your appointment so that Dr. Faust can further prepare for your appointment.

Can I pick up another homeopathic remedy when I refill my other supplements?

Refills are available for nutritional supplements for six months from the date of last consultation or until the recommended follow-up date indicated on the protocol. Homeopathic remedies are not available for refill without routine follow- up consultation.  Because Dr. Faust selects from over one thousand different remedies of varying strengths for each case, it is very important that he is able to fully evaluate each time a remedy is dispensed.

I have enough supplements for 6 days but my appointment is not for 2 weeks. Can Dr. Faust tell me if I will continue taking all of the same things?

Because Dr. Faust formulates each client’s protocol based on his assessment during appointments, unfortunately there is no way to know ahead of time if an item will remain on your protocol.

I am almost out of my supplements.  Can you send them to me?

Yes!  You can use our E-Store to place orders for delivery. Orders over $250 ship for free to MD, PA, and DE.  You are also welcome to come by the office during our regular office hours to pick up refills of your supplements.

What about backorders?

Although we try to keep adequate supplies of all items in the office, sometimes our vendors do have back orders.  We recommend that clients reorder supplements before they are completely out. If we find that an item will be on back order for longer than expected we will find a replacement product. We will notify all clients on the wait list if a replacement is found or if the backordered product arrives.
