If you have never been to see a naturopath before, it is important to understand how a naturopathic practice is both different and similar to conventional medical practices.\u00a0 Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are general family practitioners trained as experts in science-based natural medicine.\u00a0 NDs concentrate on \u201cwhole person\u201d wellness and emphasize prevention and self care.\u00a0 We seek to treat the underlying causes of health problems and not just the symptoms.\u00a0 For example, a person may have a variety of symptoms which could be treated individually, or which may be related to a common cause that needs to be addressed.\u00a0 This holistic approach leads not only to the treatment of current health concerns, but also to the prevention of future health issues, leading to a better quality of life along the way.<\/p>\n
NDs are educated and trained extensively in physical examinations, laboratory testing, nutritional and dietary assessments, metabolic analysis, allergy testing, X-ray examinations and other diagnostic tests.\u00a0 NDs are also the only practitioners specifically trained in the use of a wide variety of natural therapies.\u00a0 We combine and adapt these treatments to the needs of the individual patient based on a philosophy that acknowledges the patient as an active participant in the healing process.\u2028\u2028 Education of naturopathic doctors is comprehensive.\u00a0 NDs study the same basic and clinical sciences, as do other medical students, along with the full spectrum of natural medicines and therapies.\u00a0 This education includes premedical undergraduate coursework, completion of a four year, graduate-level program at an accredited naturopathic medical college, and two years of a supervised clinical internship.<\/p>\n
In my practice, I combine herbal medicine, nutritional counseling, homeopathy, physical medicine and other tools to help you manage your overall health.\u00a0 Every treatment plan is individualized to address your specific goals.\u00a0 I utilize a variety of diagnostic techniques, beginning with a comprehensive patient history and interview.\u00a0 I may recommend lab tests such as blood, urine, allergy, stool tests, and imaging (X-ray, MRI) to provide further insights. \u2028\u2028I am a strong believer in complementary medicine — the combined use of natural therapies with medications and other tools of western medicine.\u00a0 I make appropriate referrals to conventional medical doctors when it is indicated, and work to help my patients minimize or avoid medications where possible. \u2028\u2028Finally, I believe that naturopathic medicine is a common sense medicine.\u00a0 It is about finding the right balance in a world seemingly out of balance.\u00a0 It is my goal to help you find a healthful balance in your life.<\/p>\n

Paul Faust, N.D.<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Dr. Paul Faust is a graduate of Bastyr University\u2019s Naturopathic Medicine program in Seattle, Washington.\u00a0Bastyr University<\/a>\u00a0is internationally recognized as a pioneer in the study of natural health sciences that integrate mind, body, spirit and nature. While there, he underwent extensive clinical training at Bastyr\u2019s Natural Health Center.<\/p>\n He received additional training at Seattle\u2019s\u00a0Cancer Treatment Centers of America<\/a>\u00a0where Naturopaths and Oncologists work together in an integrative model of health care.
